Sending a Package

A FedEx mailing must be done through the University’s eProcurement system. Consequently, contact your lab manager, who will prepare the mailing label. This requires the recipient’s complete mailing address, phone number, and the email addresses of anyone you would like to track the package.

We have the option to pay for the mailing ourselves or charge the recipient. If we are doing a favor for the recipient, e.g., sharing a plasmid, they should provide their FedEx account number so that we can charge them. If we are paying for the mailing, do not fail to include our grant/project number when preparing the mailing label. This is essential for our accountants.

There is a FedEx drop off box on the loading dock behind the Genetics Medicine Building. Pickups generally occur just before 5:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. The drop box will fit packages up to approximately 20″ x 12″ x 12″. While risky, people with boxes larger than these dimensions often leave them on top of the drop box. Note that the drop off box on the loading dock is for FedEx Express packages only (as opposed to FedEx Ground).

Requesting a Pickup

If your package will not fit in the drop box, or is a FedEx Ground rather than FedEx Express package, then you will need to request a pickup. To do so, call 1-800-463-3339. FedEx Ground pickups can be scheduled for the next business day or up to ten business days in advance.

If you are scheduling a pickup, you must give FedEx our departmental FedEx account number and the exact lab address (including your bay or room number) where the package is to be picked up. If you do not do this, then the FedEx employee doing the pickup will be sent to an incorrect default location with the wrong person’s name associated with it as the sender.
