How do I surplus (or discard) old equipment?

There are two steps: (1) make a request to have the equipment picked up via the departmental BCBP website, and (2) clean and label the equipment appropriately.

How do I report equipment to be surplussed?

Go to the departmental BCBP website. Navigate to the bottom of the main page. Click on the link for Equipment Repair or Surplus. You will have to enter your Onyen and password. In the Requested Service field, select the Surplus checkbox. Fill out the form online. In the comments box at the end of the form, specify what equipment you want to discard, and where it is located. (Keep the equipment in your lab area, rather than in a departmental hallway.)

Thanks to the members of the departmental office who arrange for the discarded equipment to be carted away.

How do I prepare my equipment for surplus pickup?

Write “surplus” and your lab’s name on a strip of tape, placing it in a conspicuous location on the equipment. Again, please keep the equipment in an area in your lab where it is out of the way until picked up within a few days. Tape a signed copy of the Safety Clearance Form on the equipment. This form can be obtained from the BCBP website or here:
